vandalism in the blogging community

Looking at my list of referrers to my blog I recently found a link comming in to one of my posts.

I followed the link and found a website where someone had a blog which justs consists of stolen posts. He just had added my post to his blog and did not even mention me. His name is, oh no! I am not even going to mention it here because this would only increase his daily hits!

I contacted him by email and asked him to remove my post right away – nothing ever happened since more than a week now.

Theft of intellectual property seems to become a more and more fashionable practice.

Here is a link to a list of some recent popular cases of this kind of vandalism.

I am not sure if I want to continue blogging in the future.

Let’s publish books again
and let people pay for it!

Sorry to hear about this, Lutz, but thanks for the link. I wasn’t aware of it and it undermines my clearly stated aim to let my own particular example rest for now. Of course, I wouldnt expect Don to pay any attention to my wishes in this regard.

I’m not sure books are neccesarily the solution though. The opportunity for plagiarism still exists, but then the perpetrator is rewarded for their ‘effort’!

Me? I hope you keep blogging useful material.

    Hi Lutz,

    have a look at http://www.problogger.net/archives/2008/01/20/fighting-scrapers-with-your-left-jab/
Taking the Google route you can bring him down quite fast…

    Hi Doug,

    And why not?

Just because I think that Oracle professionals benefit from College training does NOT mean that I have ANY fellings about you personally, one way or the other. As I recall, you have VERY STONG feelings about how Oracle is not a profession, just a trade, and YOU assumed that ergo, we somehow don’t like each other, just because we disagree.

Do you want to keep your plagiarism a secret? No, if so, I assume that you would not have a blog post. So I’ll assume that you want me to remove your quote.

I know that my e-mail is really hard to find, but I’ll bet that you could find my contact info, if you really tried.

Don, you know how to get hold of me as well from when you threatened me with legal action.

Sorry Lutz, this is not the place for any debate, so I’ll leave it there. My apologies.

I have the same problem, I think this is one of the natural side affect of internet environment, copy&paste culture.

    Tonguc,
as Don said, this is not even a real USER GROUP!
Just people making money with our work.
I think we should try and skrew them up somehow.
They mess up the whole commity.

I was searching for some info for a new blog post I was writing and came across some text that resembled pretty much my own work. So I emailed the owner of the site and he told me that he was not altering anything from my posts, just linking to them. I asked him for a free pass to the complete site so I could check it out myself, but I haven’t heard from him since.
Funny though that it’s supposed to be the SQL Server Worldwide User Group and they a copying Oracle related contents.
Anything we can do to stop this?

It wasn’t a threat, I don’t make accusations that have not been checked out first as legitimate and winnable. I gave you a break, you should be thanking me.

You are also lucky that Murali Vallath does not sue you, he would get everything that you own. Some of those accusations that you published on your blog comments were clearly libelous. Even though you did not write them, you published them, and YOU, Doug Burns, are responsible for what you allow to be published on your blog:

Some folks suggest complaining to Google:
